Matriarch Herbs believes in the wisdom of plants and the power of women. We believe the health and wellbeing of mothers are vital to not only the health of their children but to all of humanity. We think gardens are medicine and Mother Nature can help every woman thrive in motherhood. We support mothers from the early days of postpartum and beyond with hand-pressed herbal products that nurture the body and spirit.
Herbs, alcohol, and water are measured and placed in a glass jar.
Jar is stored in the apothecary and given a few shakes every day to mix the contents.
Herbs are left in the jar for a minimum of six weeks to macerate.
Herbs are pressed by hand using a hydraulic press to yield a potent liquid extract.
Hi! I’m Laci. I’m an herbalist, a mom, and the owner of Matriarch Herbs. In 2019 I had a baby. My partner was home for two weeks and then returned to work, leaving me home alone with a newborn on my boob all day. I spent a lot of time on the couch feeling happy, sad, tired, overwhelmed, awestruck, hungry, madly in love, and lonely.
My postpartum was beautiful and messy. Using herbs helped me feel supported and nourished during a time when self-care felt nearly impossible. I was already a practicing herbalist at the time, so I knew what herbs to use and how to prepare them. A warm cup of tea, a dropperful of an herbal extract, or a few drops of body oil rubbed into my skin after the rare shower, made a big difference in how I felt. I wanted to help other new moms feel the same way, so I created Matriarch Herbs.
I make all of the products by hand in my apothecary using only organic and wildcrafted herbs. Each product was inspired by an issue that came up for me during my own postpartum and has been thoughtfully formulated using the science and art of herbalism.
When a baby is born, a mother is too, and she needs just as much love and care as her newborn. My hope is that Matriarch Herbs can connect women with plants, so they can use them throughout motherhood.
